Hatchetfish

Common Hatchetfish
Hatchetfish are rather strange looking fish with a flat top but a very thin, deep body, almost like the keel on a boat. This makes them very aerodynamic, meaning they can leap from the water to escape predators with relative ease. They aren't hugely colourful fish but they are still very interesting fish, being able to leap over a meter through the air. This means it is essential that an aquarium housing hatchetfish is covered at all times, otherwise, they are likely to leap out. They will not harm plants and can be kept in shoals.
