Cardinal Tetra

(Paracheirodon Axelrodi)

Picture
This small freshwater fish is extremly beautiful due to it's colouration. It's body is olive green on top with a neon blue stripe running horizontally along it. Under that, the rest of the body is a deep red colour. They may sometimes be confused with the neon tetra but the two species can be distiguished at a glance because the neon tetra's red colouration is limited to halfway along the body. They should be kept in shoals in a planted community aquarium with other small, peaceful fish. They are difficult to breed in the home aquarium.
