Anabantoids

Dwarf Gourami
Anabantoids are a group of fish that natrually inhibit slow flowing badly oxygenated streams in the wild. To combat this ,they have developed an organ called the labyrinth organ which enables them to directly breath atmospheric air. Most anabantoids prefer a planted community aquarium. Most also build bubble nests for breeding purposes which are saliva coated bubbles built up in a mound into which the eggs are stuck. Most anabantoids show some parental care and the male may care for the newly hatched fry. Click on a catergory below to begin.
