Guppy

(Poecilia Reticulata)

Picture
The guppy is one of the most popular aquarium fish in the world. It has such a variety of colouration and fin shapes that you can get almost any colour and shape you want. The males are the colourful ones with large caudal fins and they come in many different patternes from snakeskin to delta tail (please see the guppy fin shapes page in help and navigation). The females are usually just grey but there are now varietys that are just as colourful as males. Guppys are also quite small fish and should not be kept with fin nipping species such as tiger barbs as their fins may get nipped. They should be kept at a ratio at of around two females to one male. If kept in a large group, they may breed amongst themselves but plenty of hiding places are required for the fry which may get eaten by the adults.
