Livebearing Fish Differences

This page is really on how to tell the difference between male and female livebearers. The males have modified anal fins called gonopodium which is used for internal egg fertalisation, enabling females to give birth to living fish. The females just have a double set of normal anal fins. The chart opposite can be used as a reference to quickly and easily identify male and female livebearers. it is useful to be able to tell the difference at a glance as most livebearers should be kept in groups of more females than males, meaning that when at an aquatic shop, you can pick out fish of the correct gender.
