Black Ruby Barb

(Barbus Nigrofasiatus)

The black ruby barb is a stunning fish for a community aquarium. The females body is silvery and less colourful than the males. A mature male black ruby barb is cherry red with a solid black rear. They prefer subdued lighting on their tank or the fish will become nervous and are well suited to a low tech planted community aqaurium with other similar sized fish. They will not nip the fins of long finned fish as some barbs may do. They can be bred in their own breeding tank and spawning will occur soon after sunrise.
