Neon Tetra

(Parachierodon Innesi)

Picture
This little fish is one of the most popular tropical fish in the world. Infact, it is so popular that when it first became availble for hobbyists during the 1930s, they were sold for more than an average months wages, meaning very few could keep them. Their body's are silver with a neon blue stripe running along the top half of the body with the rear half of the area below this stripe being bright red. They stay quite small and should be kept in a shoal of at least 6 but more is better. They should be kept in a planted aquarium with other small, shoaling fish. As with most tetras, corydoras are a good addition to their aquarium as they mostly won't eat food that has sunk to the bottom of the aquarium, preffering to take food that is in the middle of the water colum. Most never reach their full size, staying at around 2-2.5cm in length.
