Mosquito Fish

(Heterandria Formosa)

Picture
The mosquito fish is a small live bearer that should be kept in groups wiht females outnumbering the males. The black band that runs horizontally along it's body shows off better in bright lighting. Both males and females resemble female guppys coulourwise and the two species can sometimes be confused. Their body's are mostly grey or brown. The males may only reach a tiny 2cm long, making them one of the smallest fish in the aquarium trade. They need tanks that are densely planted and can be kept with other small fish such as most tetras. The female gives birth to a few fry a day over a period of around two weeks as part of survival methods.
