Angelfish

(Pterophyllum Scalare)

Picture
This is one of the most well known and most popular fish in the aquarium trade. There are many colour variants but the normal version is silver with dark stripes running vertically down the body. They have elongated ventral, anal and dorsal fins and may be at risk from fin nipping. Adults, however, will eat small fish like neon tetras and so angelfish are best left out of the community aquarium. They prefer large, planted aquariums with plenty of swimming space. They may spawn on surfaces such as slate of broad leaved plants and they may lay up to 1000 eggs.
