Checkered Barb

(Barbus Oligolepis)

Picture
The checkered barb is a fairly large barb that grows very quickly. Their body is checkered in silver and black and has a strong metallic sheen to it. Their fins also have an orange hue to them. Males can be identified by the black edging to their fins. Checkered barbs will become mature at just four months of age. They can be bred in tanks with plenty of fine leaved plants and an adult pair may lay up to tree hundred eggs in one spawning.
